MedBridge Athletic Training CEU Courses

Are you an Athletic Trainer looking for Athletic Training CEU courses? If so, you’re in good company. Renewals are due this year, so thousands of ATs all over the country are scouring for eligible courses to continue their education and recertify their license.

AT Recertification for 2025

The BOC (or Board of Certification) has long approved online courses for Athletic Training CEU requirements, including Category A courses (formerly Evidence-Based Practice or EBP courses). Now more than ever, online providers are leading the way in continuing education, making it possible for ATs like you to find and complete great courses without risking the spread of disease.

Athletic Training Continuing Education: Category A Courses

Whether online or in-person, Category A programs typically follow one of two formats:

  • 1) A foundational approach: reviewing methodology and applying it to AT practice
  • 2) A clinical approach: using a 5-step evidence-based practice process to evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate a particular issue.

Keep these parameters in mind – you’ll recognize them in the course descriptions of some Category A courses I recommend later in the article.

Online Category A CEUs through MedBridge

In case you haven’t looked, the internet is home to many providers of online continuing education. It’s good to have options – you might even find courses for free or dirt cheap. Keep in mind, however, that you’re required to complete a set number of CEUs, including a minimum amount of Category A hours. If that free or cheap provider you found online only partially satisfies those requirements, you’ll have to go elsewhere to finish recertification – wasting time and money.

I recommend using one comprehensive source to satisfy all your CEUs, including your Category A quota. MedBridge Education is an online continuing education provider with thousands of hours of content and 620 hours of Category A courses alone. With MedBridge, you’ll be able to complete all your continuing education requirements in one place for one fee.

Unlike other cheap CEUs, the courses at MedBridge are top-notch. Some of the most qualified ATs in the business teach on MedBridge, so you know the content is worth your while. Plus, MedBridge ensures a productive learning experience, employing professional-grade presentation on a user-friendly platform.

MedBridge for Athletic Trainers

As a Physical Therapist, I’ve used MedBridge for over 5 years and recommend it to my colleagues often.

In fact, as an AT, you’ll benefit from a lot of the PT courses that I’ve taken, and many will actually count towards your Category A CEUs. But MedBridge is not just for PTs. You can find over 600 continuing education courses for Athletic Trainers on this platform.

With MedBridge, you’ll have at your fingertips a plethora of eligible courses to complete your Athletic Training renewal. Below are a few of my top picks for MedBridge CEU courses.

Top Pics for MedBridge Athletic Training CEU Courses

1. The Athlete Movement System (Upper Quarter) by Jared Vagy

This course is actually a recording of a webinar, so you’ll enjoy its interactive approach to clinical practice. The material covers foundational research in dynamometry, reflexive activation, and dual vectors to help you better understand movement systems and more efficiently diagnose dysfunction.

Presenter Jared Vagy has several other courses for the Athlete Movement System available on MedBridge. I recommend any of his courses; he has a great presentation style.

This course is worth 3 hours of BOC Category A.

2. Effective Intervention Strategies for the Management of Patellofemoral Pain by Michelle Boling

Another recorded webinar, this course offers valuable insight into an issue pervasive among athletes and active individuals: chronic knee pain. By taking this short class, you will gain a deeper understanding of this multifaceted condition and learn effective strategies for clinical prevention.

This course is worth 1.25 hours of BOC Category A.

3. Patellar Tendinosis and Graston Technique®: Evidence Based Treatment by Mike Ploski

As part of a series on the Graston Technique®, this clinical course shows how the GT can be used to treat patellar tendinosis. You’ll learn not only the mechanics of the treatment but also the rationale and research behind its efficacy in different phases of recovery.

This course is worth 1 hour of BOC Category A.

Other Athletic Training CEU Options

Depending on when you were last certified, you’ll need a minimum of either 10 or 25 Category A CEUs. Although MedBridge has plenty of content to more than satisfy those requirements, you may supplement your online courses with alternative CEUs.

The BOC allows many different activities to count towards your Evidence-Based Practice continuing education requirement. I recommend checking the BOC’s requirements to confirm eligibility.

You may be able to satisfy your Category A requirement with the following activities:

  • Completing a CAATE-accredited AT residency
  • Completing an otherwise accredited residency relevant to AT
  • Presenting or authoring a BOC-approved Category A program
  • Authoring a peer-reviewed article on clinical or translational research
  • Graduating from a qualifying program with a relevant dissertation
  • Completing CAATE-accredited post-certification coursework
  • Completing ACCME-accredited coursework pre-approved by BOC

However you choose to complete your Athletic Training CEU requirements, don’t put it off until the end of the year! And with the convenience and easy access of MedBridge online courses, you’ll have no problem making your December 31st deadline.
